IDEAL FOR: Any athlete who is looking to get the most out of their performance; struggling with anxiety or pressure; working through or coming back from an injury, including concussions and ACL injuries.
In addition to being physically prepared, it is important that athletes are equipped with the right tools to handle the mental stresses that can come with playing sports or being injured. At The Micheli Center, clients can work on those skills with Kelsey Griffith, MS, our Performance Enhancement & Rehab Specialist (PERS).
Kelsey received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Muhlenberg College in 2011 before receiving her master’s degree in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield College. While at Springfield, Kelsey worked with athletes, teams, and coaches at the NCAA Division III collegiate level. She has also worked with the Massachusetts Olympic Development elite soccer program and Broadway performers. Additionally, she completed a thesis examining the effects of training on the mood states of professional ballet dancers.
During individual sessions our Performance Enhancement & Rehab Specialist will work with clients on their mental skills, helping them to maximize their performance, and to cope with any rehabilitative processes they are going through. The first session will be 60 minutes, and subsequent sessions will be 30 minutes. The PERS will focus on the following areas with clients:
- Goal setting
- Cognitive restructuring & positive self talk
- Mental imagery
- Managing performance anxiety
- Motivation techniques
